Magazine!

Magazine! is a celebration of recognition where old memories are rekindled and old days come back to life. This exciting exhibition covers a selection from the more than 18 kilometres of magazines available at the Koninklijke Bibliotheek (KB) in The Hague. The exhibition - an enormous three-dimensional magazine - can be seen in the new repository of the KB in The Hague. Magazines are the mirror of society and have a social function. Magazine! shows the influence of Dutch general interest magazines on people and society over the past 150 years. With a team of specialists of Nexus Creative People, Stan Colders took care of the conceptual and physical realisation of the glossy, three dimensional magazine. Six rooms were arranged like a three-dimensional magazine. This ‘magazine’ guides visitors along themes such as wars, abductions and disasters as well as lifestyle, sports, fashion, interior, royal family and gossip. Everyday issues such as family, education, religion and leisure activities are not missing either of course. In the exhibition, the role of magazines as a mirror of society is the key. Using many recognisable and supposedly lost examples the producers show the impact of publications on the standards and values in the Netherlands since the nineteenth century.
